• P.C Mahalanobis was born on 29 June 1893 and received his education at Brahmo Boys School, Kolkata.

• Further studied in Kings's college at Cambridge in 1913

• The man behind mahalnobis distance, a measurement used in study of population

• Founded the Indian statistical institute.

• Dr. Mahalanobis was a also a student of J.C Bose.

• He was also a member of first planning commission of independent India.

Other Achievements

• He served as the chairman of the United Nations Sub-Commission on Sampling from 1947 to 1951 

•  Mahalanobis was appointed the honorary statistical adviser to the Government of India in 1949. 

• He was also awarded Padma Vibhushan by the Indian government in 1968.

The Prominent scientist died on June 28, 1972, just a day before his 79th birthday.
